Brandon Thompson proposed to longtime girlfriend Corey Fuller while on a day trip to the beach with their dogs. They weren’t far from their Oregon home, where they’d set down roots after graduating from Texas A&M. It was early morning, and they had stopped to see the country’s largest sitka spruce. On May 4, 2007, they tied the knot in a ceremony in the round at the Texas Discovery Gardens in Fair Park. In a nod to the proposal, the groom’s cake was shaped like a tree stump carved with the couple’s initials, and guests hung cherished family recipes on branches.
